SMU Mustangs face a critical turning point as their inconsistent run game threatens to derail ACC title hopes. Can Kevin Jennings and the offense regain their rhythm, or will struggles on the offensive line and ground attack spell disappointment for Coach Rhett Lashlee’s squad? Upcoming clashes with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest will determine if SMU can capitalize on their remaining path to the ACC Championship—especially with strong rushing defenses looming. The conversation focused on SMU’s offensive identity, the must-win nature of the next two weeks, and the importance of running the football to open up the passing attack. Several points were raised, including pass protection challenges, the rotation of true freshmen on the offensive line, and the competitive landscape with Louisville, Wake Forest, and North Carolina. A key theme that emerged was whether SMU can play to its ceiling after a shaky loss to Syracuse and avoid elimination from the ACC race.
